When analyzing the class blog, I
notice several key factors that make it effective. It achieves its goal of
welcoming and informing students of the class. The layout of a red background
makes the text part look like “center-stage” as if it were a play or show. The
text suggests that it is an informal yet informative due to the large text and
sans serif formatting. The colors do not clash with each other, which is good. The color red is warm and welcoming, which is
effective for this blog. This causes readers to feel comfortable and welcome to
reading the blog. This evokes pathos in the reader. It is hard to promote logos
as a teacher of the class. You could argue that posting the weekly assignments
evokes logos, but then again, the teacher is always in the position of power
and the posting of assignments is more of a convenience for the student. Ethos
is promoted in the blog as well. You can find this in the “Who is your
instructor?” tab. Basically, the tab is utilized by Ms. Squillante to say, “I
am the teacher, and I am very qualified to teach this class.” That sort of
pride incites confidence for the teacher in the eyes of the students. The text
itself is very straightforward, yet informal. This blog is very well done.
On the other hand, my blog is searching for purpose and direction. I, myself, am on a journey through my blog. Currently, my blog is still a work in progress. I feel it similarly reflects me as a person. I, like Ms. Squillante, chose a sans serif font to be more casual in my writing. I chose the color blue to I feel that brevity and imagery will help make my blog appear to be soothing and relaxed. This turquoise-like color is the color of youth. The template I chose is called “simple template”, which reflects myself in a way, yet I can be very complex (like this blogger website builder). As a student, I cannot be egocentric and appeal to ethos for I do not have a respected published work or a degree. I can only hope to use my blog to gain the attention of readers. I do have tabs at the top. I hope to add more of some of my favorite pictures, songs, and writing pieces. The tabs I currently have are a brief version of my plans for the blog. I figure that nobody wants to read an autobiography of John Ryan Lawlor. My goal is to take this blog beyond the classroom, and make it more than just an English assignment.
I noticed that you said you want to take this blog beyond the classroom and make it more than an English assignment, i have the same goal. So i'll be happy to read about other things.
